I continue to hike/climb the spectacular mountains in Washington State in memory of my beloved wife Heidi, who lost her cancer battle on September 24, 2012. Together she and I hiked and danced and worshipped God on hundreds of hiking trails up until her last 6 weeks of life. Heidi and I were both diagnosed with cancer within 3 months of each other. I now battle my own two cancers without her, finding faith and strength in God as we once did together. I believe the outdoor adventures are helping me stay in remission.

This is my favorite trail in the Columbia Gorge.. after 7 yrs it was time to hike it again! Wildflowers, basalt cliffs, oak forests and amazing panoramas of the Columbia River.

This year the weather was slightly less wet in the forecast at Twanoh State Park, so I chose the trail there for my Christmas hike and feast. The theme was Ethiopia, because I now sponsor a young boy there via World Vision and I wanted to learn more about their culture and foods. I found a shelter on the hike, which saved a lot of work setting up a rain tarp between trees!

I was hoping for a less crowded trail to see Mount Rainier's famous autumn colors and this was a perfect choice. Just a small number of other, friendly hikers and a perfect spot to sit for hours, enjoying the scenery!

This beautiful forest trail through logging history was a favorite of my wonderful late wife Heidi, who hiked throughout her 4yr battle with metastatic breast cancer. We hiked this trail 9 months before she died. Since this weekend is the 11th anniversary of her death, I decided to create a hike video as a memorial. I've included some photos of Heidi hiking this trail at the end of the video.

I think this is one of our most beautiful and rivers and forests Wa State, so I filmed this stretch of trail in June when snow melt had the rapids very full and when the forest's wildflowers were in full bloom.

This unmaintained, steep short trail is a great way to avoid the summer crowds at Mount Rainier and still see spectacular scenery. Lots of wildflowers still blooming as well.

This is my favorite non-crowded hiking trail from the Paradise parking lot. It is a side trail off of the popular Skyline Trail. A perfect day for views, some solitude and wildflowers!

What a fun, short hike! My dear friend Linda's birthday is on the 4th of July, so I kidnapped her for this birthday adventure. It was a great chance to see plant recovery after the huge Norse Peak Fire which happened years ago. Lots of wildflowers and spectacular views in every direction.

Wow, I made it to 70yr after 2 cancers.. thank You Lord! To celebrate I snowshoe'd some of the lower trails in the new Roslyn urban Forest. Beautiful snowy Ponderosa pine forest setting. I started on the Coal Mines Trail and then some unnamed ones higher up for the return making a fun loop.

One of the Park's most popular hikes, the fremont Lookout Trail can be uncomfortably crowded in summer. But hiking it on an off season weekday was nice! Incredible views to the North and East of Mount Rainier.

Thanks for sharing! I love Columbia River Gorge. We’ve never hiked Coyote Wall trail, but we want to try it next time.
You’ll love it! If there are no recent Coyote Wall trail reports at wta.org, you can check Lyle Cherry Orchard reports to know when the balsamroot sunflowers are at peak bloom both places.
The Columbia river gorge area is still one of my favorite places to hike, thanks for the views and wildflower show!

Wonderful way to celebrate, especially remembering those whose lives are in much turmoil. You honor them. What a beautiful setting. We were just up to the Sol Duc River on Saturday - another spot filled with early spring flowers and filtered daylight.
